Science
This term we have been looking at Earth Systems. In particular what lies beneath the surface of the earth and what effect that has on us living at the surface. Stay tuned for some pictures and videos of the experiments that we completed to cement or knowledge.
Today in science we have been doing some observational drawings. We have been practising this by looking at the difference between bees and wasps. firstly we watched a video on Youtube called Austin’s Butterfly. It talks about how it is important to draw what we SEE and not what we IMAGINE. That is the whole point of OBSERVATIONAL scientific drawing. If you saw one flying by you might not be able to tell the difference between a bee and a wasp but through our OBSERVATIONAL DRAWINGS we can see that there are a number of huge differences in shape, size, anatomy and colour.
here are the images we used for our observational drawings……
Can you spot the differences when you look closely? Keep watching for the results of our drawings……..
I was so impressed with the perseverance that you boys and girls showed on this task
We should do more of this stuff
Now I can tell the differences between a bee and a wasp whenever I see it flying near me.
Now I know which is which whenever it flies near me 🙂
The difference between a bee and wasp is the wasp has a longer neak and it is yellow.
Some interesting comments here kids. But what did you think of the actual task of observational drawing? What did you learn about how scientists have to think and act?
Great to see the attention to detail. Science is so much about this and I am impressed!
the bees were fun to draw
This was fun, We should do more.
cool photos of the bees
wasps has a thick belly and bees belly is thinner
we should do more of this stuff
I think the wasps that we drew had more of a “waist” than the bees Dodge. would you agree?
this was really fun we should more drawings of other animals ; )
Hi my name is Joseph and Im from Kawakawa primary school. I love your classes drawings because they’re really artistic. Fantastic Job.
Hi my name is Alesia I am a year 7 student from Kawakawa primary school. I really like how you do science for class work. Maybe your class can teach us some science stuff. Blog all your science stuff so we can see what your up to in science.
